Cows vs Aliens — LB Sedlacek

I like to imagine what’s up above. I like to visit the radio telescopes in West Virginia. On the way to the GBT, Great Big Thing, or one of the largest telescopes around, there’s a cow pasture. The cows lie right down in front of it and don’t seem to concerned about finding any proof […]

All Things Natural
Yawns and shadows don’t seem
like they should go together —
not unlike a giant yellow M
glowing in the woods
as bright as the moon would be
if it were out. And the
rapid report of nearby
rifle hunting squirrel,
possum (it happens in the south
you know) wrecks my dinner,
a simple bowl of vegetable
soup (no need to hunt these
veggies down). My mailbox
is stuffed with junk mail, some
of it advertising the giant yellow
M. I think of the boys and their
rifles and wonder how close they’d
have to be to knock out the neon
to keep it from shading the moon.

Butterfly Confidential
I
saw it
coming
at me
and I
could have
swerved
but I didn’t.
My tires
are new
enough, the
paint
isn’t peeling
so, I
kept going
at full
speed
and didn’t
slow down
even when
we collided
… this butterfly
and me
or
rather
my windshield
now
splattered
with green
bug blood
if it’s blood
at all. It
lingered – wings
whipping in the
wind
and maybe
glared
at me
for a
moment
(can it do
that?) before
the sheer
velocity
ripped it
from my
sight
into the
path of
someone
moving slower
than me.
